Ekspertiz, köken olarak Fransızca bir kelimedir. Expert kelimesinden türetilmiş ve Türkçe’ye eksper şeklinde çevrilerek lugatımıza dahil edilmiştir. Eksper, belirli bir konuda teknik bilgisi olan uzman kişi anlamını taşımaktadır. 2. el oto ekspertiz ise alanında uzman ve sertifikalı uzmanların teknik araç ve ekipmanlarla otomobilleri detaylı bir biçimde inceleyerek sonuçları biz düzen içerisinde raporlaması demektir.
Oto ekspertiz işlemleri ilgili aracın geçmişte yaşadığı kazalardan değişen parçalara, mekanik aksamında bozulan yerlerden yakın zamanda masraf çıkarabilecek tüm noktalara kadar otomobilin incelenmesinden oluşmaktadır. Oto ekspertiz işlemleri son bulduğunda ise bu işlemin yapılmasını isteyen kişiye yazılı rapor ve bilgi sunumu gerçekleştirilmektedir.
Aracın önemli noktalarına ekspertiz işlemi yapılmadan ikinci el aracın satın alınması durumunda ilerleyen süreçlerde sıkıntılı sonuçlarla karşı karşıya kalınması muhtemeldir. Bu nedenle oto ekspertiz oldukça önemli bir işlemdir.
